May 10, 2007 — Bellevue, WA — ITTIA is further strengthening its ITTIA Database management software for embedded systems and devices with the release of version 2.0. ITTIA previews this new release at one of Japan’s largest embedded gatherings, ESEC – Embedded Systems Expo and Conference. ESEC provides embedded developers with an opportunity to learn about exciting new technologies, such as ITTIA Database.
ITTIA Database, version 2.0, is a high-performance embedded data management system that can be used either as a stand-alone embedded library, or in combination with ITTIA’s lightweight data server. ITTIA Database provides true ACID-compliant transaction support, enabling application developers to easily build robust, reliable applications with these modern development techniques. New features in this version include enhancement to documentation and client/server shared access with data change notification events.
With the addition of client/server support, multiple applications are now able to access the same database simultaneously. Client applications can connect to a server running on the same device, or across the network. ITTIA Database ensures that shared access is both efficient and reliable by utilizing fine-grained row-level locking, and additional efficiency can be gained through support for multiple isolation levels. ITTIA Database is thread-safe and these same features are available to multiple threads sharing a database within an application.
ITTIA Database enables embedded applications to perform background tasks without interrupting the user. For example, a set-top box connected to a television can download new program listings even while some of the listings are being displayed on the screen. With data change notification events, the display task can be automatically notified to update the screen when new listings become available. The display task simply subscribes to receive notifications, and will be automatically notified with an event when a change occurs.
This new release also includes improvements to the documentation. Applications written for previous versions of ITTIA Database require no changes to work with this new release.
“We are excited to release ITTIA Database version 2.0 and extend our commitment to embedded software developers,” said Sasan Montaseri, ITTIA President. “With ITTIA Database version 2.0, embedded developers have a new tool to develop applications that share information both safely and efficiently.”
