January 28, 2005 — Bellevue, WA — In a day when the high-tech business world is moving increasingly towards aesthetics over functionality, ITTIA is taking steps to make its open source offering more available, enhancing the usability of its website and is releasing the February issue of its newsletter.
ITTIA has recently released db.* version 1.1, and will be releasing its first newsletter, which targets embedded developers. The company’s website has been redesigned to emphasize the embedded database community, Club ITTIA, affirming ITTIA’s commitment to open source development. By adopting new backend content management software, ITTIA will be able to provide more services to Club ITTIA members.
Club ITTIA is a place where software developers who use embedded databases can share information about their experiences. Databases are a complex segment of application development and Club ITTIA invites developers to work with us as a center point to avoid duplicating efforts already made by developers.
db.* is an open source combination network- and relational database for open source operating systems. It is free for anyone to download, develop, modify and distribute. It has great documentation, a small footprint and provides exceptional speed and flexibility. Paying Club ITTIA members receive updated versions as well as annual or case-based technical support.
Mr. Oleg Sesov, an expert developer who joined Club ITTIA, with an extensive background in embedded computing, explains, “I evaluated several embedded open-source database engines and found that db.* looks the most mature and well developed and documented – and I am going to use it for my development.”
ITTIA smoothed out several wrinkles during the website facelift. News has been simplified throughout the site for a simpler look and better compatibility across all browsers. The master navigation bar now has a direct link to the Club ITTIA community and Club ITTIA members can now login directly from the homepage. Our HTML pages render in virtually all browsers, including text-based browsers, for superior accessibility for all, including visually impaired users.
The db.* section of the site has been rewritten, making it much easier to browse through the features and benefits of this fast, open-source database management system. Finally, the Club ITTIA section, including the forum, received a minor makeover to improve readability and ease-of-use. ITTIA’s content management system runs on 100 percent open open-source software.
“We’re very pleased with the new look and feel of the ITTIA website,” said Sasan Montaseri, ITTIA President. “It reflects our focus and commitment to serve Club ITTIA members. The new site is simpler to navigate and use, and will help members quickly find the information they are looking for.”
ITTIA is also issuing its first customer newsletter. Newsletters build relationships with developers, and also offer them an added social benefit in that they can forward relevant newsletters to other colleagues. However, a newsletter must be useful, relevant, and informative, or else readers will simply ignore it. ITTIA intends heed this fact: therefore, in addition to ITTIA-written material, we welcome submissions from others in the community.
